MUSIC lovers can learn basic DJ skills from a Perth professional with 15 years of experience in Morley this month.

DJ Michael de Graaf, who runs Degraaf Entertainment in Madeley, will hold a free workshop at the Morley Sport and Recreation Centre on July 15.

The workshop is part of the City of Bayswater’s How to Adult events program, which aims to prepare young people for the future.

It is suitable for people aged 12 to 17 years old.

Mr de Graaf, who started DJ’ing at 16, said students would rotate around a series of five-minute activities.

“(The workshop) will cover all fundamentals of DJ’ing from beat mixing to scratching, to setting cue points and mixing songs together,” he said.

“DJ’ing is pretty easy if you can tap your pedal to the beat while you drive.

“As long as you have got a heartbeat, you should be able to keep a beat.”

City of Bayswater youth advisory council member Max Guesdon said the workshop would teach young people new skills.

Other workshops in the program include a barista course, first aid and cupcake decorating.
