PERTH MHR Tim Hammond was assigned a shadow portfolio today, three weeks into his first term in Federal Parliament.

Mr Hammond, who represents City of Bayswater and Town of Bassendean residents, has been appointed Labor spokesman for consumer affairs, to add to his assistant resources role.

He replaces Senator Sam Dastyari who controversially resigned from the front bench last week.

Mr Hammond said his background as a lawyer representing victims of asbestos-related disease against large companies would help in his current role.

“I know how hard it can be to find a voice when the odds seem insurmountable – I hope to be that voice for Australian consumers who aren’t getting a fair go,” he said.
