Perth weather: big wind gusts strike

WIND gusts of more than 90km/h struck Perth in rainy conditions last night, with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services responding to more than 50 calls for help.

Ocean Reef in Perth’s north received the biggest battering on the mainland with 91km/h winds recorded about 10pm. In nearby Hillarys, winds reached 78km/h at 10.30pm.

Rottnest Island experienced 95km/h winds while Perth City hit about 50km/h before midnight.

In the south, Melville was struck with gusts of 89km/h about 9pm and Mandurah had 72km/h winds at 8.30pm.

Jandakot has received about 37.4mm of rain since yesterday.

Perth City has been a little less wet with 17mm.

The Bureau of Meteorology has cancelled a severe weather warning for today with a 19C forecast, light winds and a chance of 1-3mm of rain.

Mild weather is expected into the weekend.
