A POLICE officer was injured and a police dog allegedly punched after a dramatic chase in Morley and Bayswater last night.

Police say a white Holden Commodore sedan was stolen from a home on Hardy Street in North Perth yesterday afternoon.

About 11.15pm last night, police received a report the car was seen in the Bayswater area and just before midnight police saw the vehicle travelling on Walter Road in Morley.

Police activated emergency lights and siren on their vehicle and it is alleged the driver of the Commodore failed to stop and accelerated away heavily.

The Commodore travelled through various streets before stopping on Mills Avenue, near Coode Street in Bayswater.

Police allege that as their vehicle approached the Commodore the driver reversed into the police car causing minor damage.

A 15-year-old male passenger in the Commodore was taken into custody and later released without charge.

Police say that as the male driver was removed from the car he struggled violently with police.

One police officer required two stitches to his hand as a result of injuries he received during the arrest.

Police Dog Jack was deployed and it is alleged the male driver punched Jack to the head and face area which resulted in the man receiving a dog bite to his face and arm.

The man was conveyed to hospital for treatment.

A 44-year-old man from Morley has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle and driving recklessly and reckless driving to escape pursuit by police.

He has also been been charged with failing to comply with a direction to stop in circumstance of aggravation and obstructing public officers.
