POLICE are searching for a man over the assault of an 74-year-old man in Dianella yesterday.

About 2.45pm, the man was driving his blue coloured Saab in a westerly direction along Yirrigan Drive when an unknown man crossed the street and stood still in the middle of the road, forcing the man to stop.

The offender approached the stopped car and hit the vehicle with his hand, verbally threatening the driver.

When the victim got out of his car to speak with the man, the man assaulted him, hitting him to the face several times.

The offender walked away and was last seen walking along Yirrigan Drive towards Farrier Road.

The 74-year-old victim was taken to St John of God Hospital where he was treated for bruising to his jaw and face.

The offender is described as being aged between 25 to 30 years, dark skinned, with a medium build, approximately 175cms tall, short black hair and facial stubble.

He was wearing a grey checked long-sleeve shirt, a white t-shirt and long pants.
