Policy leaves existing crossovers untouched

The new policy came under fire last month when it was revealed that existing crossovers would be ripped up to allow continuous walkways through the City.

The policy has now been changed, with footpaths now stopping at the crossover and not continuing unless the crossover is constructed with bitumen, is not built to the City’s specifications, is damaged, failing or presents a pedestrian safety hazard.

The same may also apply if agreed to by the landowner.

Retrospective application will not apply to existing crossovers, but any future crossovers constructed on a street that is listed for the construction of a footpath behind the kerb in the same financial year, must have the first 2.05 metres constructed in grey pre-mixed concrete.
