PREMIER Colin Barnett is in the “process of responding” to Bassendean MLA Dave Kelly’s request for the State Government to consider purchasing a prime land package.
Mr Kelly sent a letter dated October 14 to two ministers and the Department of Lands urging anyone who would listen to consider purchasing lots 5 and 6 Old Perth Road to ensure the underutilised carpark next to the Bassendean Hotel is developed.
Mr Barnett’s spokesman told the Eastern Reporter the letter was “only just received” and he was “in the process of responding”.
Mr Kelly said he was “very disappointed with the lack of interest shown so far”.
“The Government puts out a lot of reports about the need for strategic development to ensure Perth grows to be a sustainable and liveable city rather than a congested environmental mess,” he said. “But here we have a rare opportunity to ensure smart development 100m from a train station and there is little interest.”
The WA Planning Commission purchased Lot 1 Lord Street, Bassendean during the 2014-15 financial year.
The land is partly reserved in the Metropolitan Region Scheme for the future widening of Lord Street.
