Puppy died in large house fire

A HOUSE fire which caused an estimated damage of half a million dollars has also claimed the life of a puppy this morning.

A triple zero call came through about a structure fire on Edward Street in Bedford at 3.50am.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services took several hours to tackle the fire, which caused an estimated damage of $500,000.

Two people inside the house escaped the fire and a man in his 50s was taken to Royal Perth hospital for smoke inhalation.

However, the puppy inside could not be saved.

Police has ruled the fire not suspicious.

A DFES spokesperson said the cause was undetermined at this time.
