WA artist Rahalie McGuirk will be auctioning off her artwork at a fundraiser this month.

The 29-year-old, who teaches art classes in Morley, will be participating in the Cord: Take a Seat event at Perth City Farm on May 28.

Cord Fundraiser raises money for spinal cord injury research.

McGuirk said she would be decorating six wooden stools for the event.

“The concept of the stools is more of a 3-D showpiece of the theme Take a Seat, so we were asked to draw or paint an artwork on the top of the stools and on the night they will be displayed and sold at a set price,” she said.

McGuirk said she started to be more active around the local art scene.

“I’ve experimented with various art forms over the years, but it’s only been over the past 18months that I made a decided push to make it more of a living than a hobby,” she said.

“Venues like Little Wing Corner Gallery in Subiaco really support local artists and musicians and provide a great platform for networking opportunities.”

She said she recently painted a cat mural in West Leederville.

“My current focus is on painting and mural work and I always to unite a confident application of line with considered colour choices,” she said.

When asked about her future goals, she said she wanted to continue doing art.

“I guess ideally it would be to make a living from doing what I love- painting commissions, murals and teaching, but as long as I’m creating in some form I’m happy,” she said.

“I’d love to teach workshops in my own studio at some point soon, it’s refreshing to see students grow confidence and initiative within their own artistic practice.”
