PERTH’s rainfall gauge is expected to get a workout over the next 48 hours, with up to 80mm of rain tipped to fall on Thursday and Friday.

The rain is already tumbling in the metro area, with between 10 and 25mm predicted to fall on Thursday.

Perth’s average rainfall for February is 12.5mm, and just 0.6mm fell in February last year.

The rainfall comes after a wet end to January saw 45.4mm fall, three times the average for that month.

The rain came as welcome relief for firefighters battling overnight blazes on the city’s south eastern fringe, near Bedfordale and Armadale.

And if you’re reaching for a jumper, it’s no surprise – the predicted maximum is just 20 degrees – we below the February average of 31.7.
