THE recent erection of a for sale sign outside The Bassendean Hotel has caused a stir with residents.

A picture of the sign advertising the sale of Lots 5 and 6 Old Perth Road was posted on community Facebook group We Heart Basso on August 17, prompting conjecture about the future of the pub.

“Great. More apartments,” one group member posted.

“Rumour has it a Woolworths is going there,” wrote another member.

Real estate agent Gerald Morgan said the hotel was safe.

“There are two titles; the land is on one title and the hotel is on another and they are both to be sold,” he said.

“But the hotel is safe because the buyer will be buying the lease for the hotel.”

Hotel co-owner Stefano Rossi, who took over one year ago, said the carpark space could be better utilised.

“A big carpark in the middle of town is not the most exciting thing,” Mr Rossi said. “I think development is inevitable and I am not against development, I just hope whatever is done to the space keeps with the character of the street.”

Mr Rossi said hotel events had been planned to celebrate one year of ownership.

“It is one year on September 6 and we will be throwing a party,” he said.

“There will be acoustic music, kids entertainment during the day and a concert at night; we want to say thanks to the community for their support.’

Mr Rossi said he and his business partner Vincent Lee had almost completed all the upgrades they had planned.
