THE RSPCA is calling on bakers and animal lovers to join its annual Cupcake Day fundraising campaign.

The event will be held on August 19 but people can host morning or afternoon teas any time during the month.

Funds raised will go towards neglected, sick and injured animals and providing medical treatment, shelter vet care and rehabilitation for them.

One of the pets ready for adoption is Nixon, an eight-year-old staffy with three legs who came to the RSPCA’s Malaga shelter from Kalgoorlie in April.

Events co-ordinator Nicola White said the shelter would like to see as many people on board as possible.

“The generosity and dedication of each and every Cupcake Day host means everything to the thousands of abused, neglected and abandoned animals who rely on RSPCA for help every year,” she said.

“In 2018-19, RSPCA WA Inspectors investigated 6420 cruelty cases, which is 363 more than the previous year.

“This important work simply couldn’t continue without the community’s generous support for events like Cupcake Day.”

She hoped to raise more than $100,000 on the day.

Bakers will receive a host kit with tips, recipe ideas, an oven-shaped donation box, decoration and bunting.

Bakers who raise $20 will receive a RSPCA Cupcake Day recipe book.

Other prizes include a cupcake decorating masterclass with Zoe from Bites by D in Mt Hawthorn and a trip for two to Barossa Valley.
