THE RSPCA is investigating a video that purports to show a dog groomer yelling at and hitting a dog while grooming it.

The video, shared on Facebook by Jill Grammer on December 6, appears to show a woman at Happy Dog Grooming in Dianella hitting a dog, yelling and swearing at it.

An RSPCA WA spokesperson said today the organisation was investigating the video.

Helen Sayer, who owns the business shown in the video, said it had been a “very tough week”.

“The dog in the video was very aggressive,” she said.

According to Ms Sayer, the owner had been a regular customer for “many years” with her previous dog, before bringing her new dog – the one in the video – in for grooming.

“We were told if she bites, to give her a smack,” she said.

“She kept getting the muzzle off – she bit me three times.

Ms Sayer said she usually muzzled dogs when they were aggressive.

“I may have to smack a dog three or four times a year,” she said.

She said the support from her regular customers had been very strong, despite the bad publicity.

“We just have to try and ride it out,” she said.

Ms Grammer has been contacted for comment.
