‘Speed dating’ for job seekers at inaugural Midland Gate Jobs Fair

Sarah BrookesEastern Reporter

SPEED dating with a difference is coming to Midland Gate later this month with the centre holding its inaugural jobs fair to hook up job seekers looking for a career in retail.

Centre manager Alison Broadbent said candidates could meet employers face-to-face, ask about job opportunities and get careers advice from the North Metropolitan TAFE Jobs and Skills Centre.

“There will be more than 50 jobs available from Christmas casual positions through to full time roles with incoming retailers,” she said.

“Think of this as speed-dating for job seekers. To keep queues moving and make sure as many job seekers get to see an employer, each candidate will be allocated approximately three minutes per employer.

“Attendees will be able to see a maximum of two retailers per entry however they are welcome to rejoin the queue if they want to see more than two retailers.

“No pre-registrations are required, you just simply arrive on the day.”

Ms Broadbent said previous jobs fairs held by Vicinity Centres, which manages Midland Gate, had proved extremely successful.

More than 700 job seekers attended the property group’s most recent recruitment event at Galleria.

“We’re expecting a big turnout at our Midland Gate event, with a wide variety of retail employment opportunities on offer, from food and hospitality, to general merchandise and beauty,” she said.

“I would ask everyone to dress like you would for a job interview and bring plenty of copies of your CV.”

Newcomers JB Hi-Fi and Rebel Sport have already signed up to take part in the recruitment drive as the centre enters the final phase of its $100 million redevelopment project and the busy run-up to Christmas.

They will be joined by a number of existing retailers offering jobs at Midland Gate, including Kmart, Best & Less, Miss Maud and Pandora.
