Street Roller Hockey League finds home for finals at Morley Rollerdrome

Toyah ShakespeareEastern Reporter

THE homeless Street Roller Hockey League has found a temporary ground at the Morley Rollerdrome, with a finals series to be played at the site.

The league joined forces with the Bayswater Bowling and Recreation Club in October last year.

After a noise complaint from neighbours, the league and bowls club worked hard to keep down noise, finished matches by 7pm and modified the rink with a sound block.

In May, City of Bayswater council moved behind closed doors to write to the bowls club to inform the league to keep noise down or relocate.

The hockey league said they “searched desperately” for a warehouse space for a replacement finals venue.

Morley Rollerdrome has offered its venue for finals games on July 3, July 11 and July 17.

Some 12 teams have made the finals series to compete in men’s and mixed and a women’s final.

Colourful team names include Balcatta Bandits, The Swanborne Identity, Mindarie Molotovs, Freopian Tubes, Churchlands Hellraisers and Dirty Herdy Birdies.

An acoustic engineer had been hired to look at modifications that could be made for Bayswater next season.
