Young designer to showcase eco-designs at Perth Fashion Festival

Kristie LimEastern Reporter

EDEN Hill fashion designer Ella Steiner will be showcasing her natural flair at the Perth Fashion Festival’s Future Runway show.

The Curtin University honours student will showcase her eco fashion and ‘ready to wear’ designs at the festival’s closing night on September 14 at Yagan Square.

Her ‘ready to wear’ look was inspired by the idea of evoking memories through handmade garments, while her eco design celebrated natural colours and slow practices.

Steiner (22) said she was excited for her first Future Runway show.

“I’m really happy for the opportunity to be in the show,” she said.

“One of my pieces is an eco-fashion design and it is made with natural dyeing and hand weaving.

“It is inspired by a trip that I took during the holidays up to the coral coast and to the Pilbara.”

While she does not sell her designs at the moment, she stocked jewellery pieces in a gallery in the Perth Hills.

Her goal is to continue creating process-driven designs and exploring natural dyeing and hand weaving.

“I’ll continue doing something small and see where that takes me,” she said.

She will also be taking part in Curtin’s fine art graduate show at the end of the year.
