WHETHER it be a cheat night or a Sunday hangover meal, pizza is one of those guilty pleasures that is hard to resist.

Perth’s pizza game has evolved over the years – traditional pizzas have become more creative and universal with gluten free and vegan options.

We’ve put our heads together to come up with a list of the best pizzerias in the north-eastern suburbs, in no particular order.

This is part of an on-going ‘best of’ series where we will feature the most popular local joints for anything from baked goods to desserts.

Rossonero Pizza, Maylands

Maylands is full of hipster food joints and Rossonero is one of the fanciest in the town centre. Tucked inside Lyric Lane, the boutique pizzeria serves up gourmet ingredients with sophisticated flavours on a thin base. One of the tastiest pizzas is The Bram, which is a garlic base topped with pancetta, goldrush pear, brie, bocconcini and balsamic glaze. For vegetarians, the Pumped Up Kicks is a winner with sage roasted pumpkin, gruyere, caramelised onion, apple, walnuts on a white base. There are also gluten free base and vegan cheese options.

Mario’s Pizza, Dianella

This family-owned business won the Menulog’s Peoples Choice Award last year. It has been serving the Dianella community and beyond since 1999. Mario’s recently launched an app so pizza lovers can order with their fingertips and have their meal delivered. The Tia Bella, consisting of garlic, onion, capsicum, tomato, pineapple, curry powder with a lamb option, is a must-try.

Romanos Pizzeria, Ellenbrook

Owner Laurance Romano has led his family business to winning the Australian Champion Fast Food Store at the Australian Small Business Champion Awards in 2017 and the 2014 Commonwealth Bank Small Business Award for Best New Business. Community News key account director Brendan Jupp recommends the Portofino and Margherita.

Centrepoint Pizza, Morley and Midland

Centrepoint Pizza is a readers’ favourite, with dozens of mentions in our Facebook post. This local pizzeria has ventured out from traditional pizzas to funky ones like meatballs, gluten-free and vegan-friendly pizzas. It also has an impressive dessert menu with unique gems like Smores, Cherry Ripe and Ferrero Rocher.

Old Lira, Bassendean

Located in the heart of Bassendean, Old Lira is known for its handmade and gourmet pizzas. People travel several kilometres to dine or takeaway from here. Some of the most popular pizzas include the lamb with feta, olives rocket, mozzarella and tzatziki and the spicy sausage with broccoli, shaved blue cheese and parmesan.

Embers Woodfired Pizza, Gooseberry Hill

Embers is a long-standing Italian institution in the Perth Hills. While there is a wide range of dishes on the menu, the pizzas are a standout. It is also gluten friendly.
