MORE than 200 community volunteers were recognised by the Town of Bassendean at an appreciation dinner last month.

Bassendean State Emergency Service (SES) unit volunteers, artist Nami Osaki and Magician Robbie T headlined the event on May 24.

Councillors, Town staff and East Metro MLC Alanna Clohesy attended the event, which celebrated National Volunteer Week.

A community artwork painted by artist Osaki and children through her art workshops served as a photography backdrop on the night.

Robbie T got up close and personal with award-winning acts.

Halfway through the event, SES volunteers had to leave and attend an emergency call due to bad weather.

Ms Clohesy said the SES’ efforts were a “true testament” to the selfless act of volunteering and it was great to celebrate the Town’s volunteers.
