Town of Bassendean to take ‘holistic approach’ to Bassebdeab Activity Centre future

Kristie LimEastern Reporter

BASSENDEAN Mayor John Gangell has said the Town will take a “holistic approach” into the future steps for the Bassendean Activity Centre project.

In an update sent by developers LandCorp on behalf of project partners, it was revealed that the Town, LandCorp and Swan Districts Football Club would continue to progress with the project.

The project, which originally consisted of proposed developments at Bassendean Oval, BIC Reserve and the Wilson Street carpark, was amended in September at a council meeting.

The amendments included taking out BIC Reserve from the plans, reinvestigate redevelopment options for the Civic Centre and for any redevelopment of the Wilson Street and Bassendean Oval to be parallel with the Town’s potential changes to its local planning framework.

Cr Gangell said the Town was still keen for the project to continue.

“We have taken on the feedback that we have received through the consultation process and what we are going to do, we are going to go back and finetune our overall town area strategy now that we have got our strategic planner on board,” he said.

“We will still have the involvement with the State Government and LandCorp along with the Swan Districts Football Club but we are going to take a bit of time.”

Cr Gangell said it would take about 18 months for any decisions to be made on the project.

“It has now extended out so there is certainly not going to be a distinctive timeframe put on any proposal going forward,” he said.

“At this stage, we have not planned out where we are going to do from here other than we would like to do a holistic approach.

“We have not had an opportunity to outline the exact stages going forward yet.”
