THE Reid Highway and Malaga Drive intersection in Noranda is the fifth worst intersection in WA, according to the RAC’s annual Risky Roads campaign scorecard.
Released on October 13,it noted that the intersection had inadequate crossing or turning opportunities and an inadequate traffic light system.
State Government construction and reconfiguration work to improve the intersection is now under way and due for completion mid 2016.
General manager corporate affairs Will Golsby said the scorecard looked at the progress made on the roads that were nominated by the community as the State’s riskiest roads 12 months ago.
“We acknowledge and welcome the construction under way on some of the roads identified, but we’re extremely concerned that that work on the rest has not commenced,” he said.
With over 5000 nominations last year, the survey was designed to empower community members to voice their concerns about dangerous roads and intersections so authorities can get them fixed.
