Man charged after alleged sexual conduct with former student

DETECTIVES have charged a man over alleged sexual behaviour online with a former student of his.

It is alleged between December 2019 and January 2020, the man used a social media platform to engage in online sexual behaviour with a female teenager.

Police said the man met the girl when he was her teacher but the alleged offences did not occur while she was his student.

Kalgoorlie detectives executed a search warrant at the man’s home and found a number of electronic devices belonging to him on February 18.

It is alleged child exploitation material was identified on some of the devices.

Further analysis of the devices is ongoing, police says.

The man from the Goldfields-Esperance District has been charged with persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16 years, indecently dealing with a child over 13 and under 16 years and possessing child exploitation material.

Police have also charged the man with three counts of encouraging a child over 13 and under 16 years to engage in sexual behaviour.

He is next due to appear before the Kalgoorlie Magistrates’ Court on March 23.
