“His handler is with him and we are yet to hear exactly what the source of the medical issue is.”

She said police would keep the public updated on his progress.

Rumble has built a profile as one of the most effective members of the WA Police canine unit.

Most recently, he helped track wanted man Bret Lindsay Capper, who police had sought over a number of car thefts and robberies.

In August last year, he avoided serious injury when a man lunged at him and his handler with a knife.

Rumble bit the offender on the ankle, leading to the man’s arrest.
