Cost of progress

IT’S fantastic to see Bassendean town centre revitalised and rejuvenated with the town council approving several multi-storey apartment blocks and the upgrading of our Village Shopping Centre.

However, at what cost?

Unfortunately, it appears to me that the council has been so busy concentrating on those projects, and many more in the town centre, that it has neglected our most important assets, namely our parks and waterways.

One example would be Bindaring Park woodlands, with overgrown walkways, large dead trees and large branches, and other debris littering the dog walking tracks.

I have lived in Bassendean for more than 27 years and while I am delighted to see the progress, I urge the council not to forget its basic role of looking after the ratepayers’ most important assets.
