Former Bayswater resident against tree removal

HAVING once lived in Bayswater for about 17 years and being very happy while there with the way the trees and vegetation were generally looked after, I am disgusted to hear that trees that are old and provide shade for people and a home for birds and insects are being chopped down.

To say one tree is to be replaced with two others is no comfort. The new trees are purported to be small and even if they are of a type that will grow large, it will take many years. Moreover, who is to say that the minute they get a bit bigger some idiot will want to chop them down too.

Why do councils, governments and developers have this mindset against trees, bush, scrub and so forth? We are constantly told how getting out into nature is good for us, yet every bit of it is being chopped down.
