IT may have taken 11 years but at last Bassendean town council has a councillor willing to take a stand on a serious environmental issue.
At the last council meeting, Cr Bob Brown put forward a Notice of Motion to enter into “discussion with land owners and applicable government agencies, and for council staff to prepare a report on the removal of the Tonkin Park containment cell mound and the contaminated soil containment earthworks so as to make the site safe”.
This so-called containment cell has contaminated Bassendean’s ground water for many, many years now with lead, heavy metals, fluoride and arsenic.
