Less, not more

A RECENT special meeting of electors was held at Swan Districts Football Club to discuss concerns about Bassendean Town Council’s attempt to give up for development 11ha of public open space around Steel Blue Oval and nearby BIC reserve.

As Councillor Gerry Pule reiterated at this meeting, “the State Government recommends local councils have 10 per cent of land for public open space but Bassendean has only a mere 7 per cent, which is well below recommendations”.

He went on to say that council would strive to reach 10 per cent.

How can this happen if you take away 11ha of presently public open space and put 400 units on it?

Is this not decreasing the 7 per cent?

It all sounds like a load of lip service yet again.

GERRY COLEMAN,

Bassendean.
