AS the Anzac commemorations draw to a close, we seem to have forgotten a soldier.
To leave behind the Australian war horses because they were considered only as equipment was a most shameful act perpetrated by an Australian Government and the military of the time.
The loyalty that these creatures showed their fellow soldier would have no parallel and how anyone could make such a dishonourable decision to leave a mate behind astounds me.
I thought there was an unwritten law in war that you never leave your mate behind.
I understand why the soldiers killed their horses rather than leave them to an uncertain fate but this did not have to happen.
I hope that we in Australia will always remember that if we send a soldier to war, we bring that soldier home.
