Opinion: Stupid idea to widen Walter Road

Margaret Ryan, BallajuraEastern Reporter

BACK in early December 2016 there was an item in the paper about the Bayswater City Council looking at widening the area of Walter Road right by the Coventry Village shopping complex.

Boy, what a stupid idea.

I and many other pedestrians have a big issue getting across the road with the width it is now, so if they widen it, it will be even harder.

Also, given that the City of Bayswater continues to tout itself as a green city with lots of trees etc, why in heaven’s name go proposing something that is going to rip out vegetation for a flipping road and ultimately damage or destroy businesses?

I am not a ratepayer there any more. I used to be for 17 years, but left the city over 22 years ago.

But I still have an interest in the area as I come down from Ballajura to shop in Coventry Village.

I use a doctor’s surgery in Morley and am really looking forward to Aldi opening up there too, as it will mean that I am not restricted to Coles and Woolworths and their high prices and also their continuous efforts in permanently taking products off of their shelves and so leaving consumers without choice.

So, as an interested user of the Morley shopping centre areas, I say no to anything that will have a detrimental effect on Coventry Village.
