Positive moves

BASSENDEAN Mayor John Gangell says he is in support of greater transparency and accountability in local government.

Now that local government amalgamations are off the table, Bassendean council can take this initiative.

An accessible and navigable website, meeeting agendas with attachments available online with a functional search facility and the recordings of meetings being available online would all be simple and achievable steps towards improving communication between our local government and the people it represents.

Allowing the public to attend briefing sessions, as in some other local governments, would also be a positive move towards improving transparency, communication and mutual respect.
