Preserve trees

Why is it that they have to follow the lead of the Premier in not caring about the benefit of trees?

It is not only the shade of the tree; it is also the refuge these trees provide for birdlife and small wildlife, such as lizards and insects, which is precious.

In addition, in some cases the historical value of the tree and in other cases the trees are barely into 10 per cent of their expected “life” span.

We are constantly told of the value of nature and yet it is being ripped out left, right and centre.

To say that other shrubs and trees will be planted is no comfort when in many cases the trees will take 20 or 30 years to be able to provide the same effect as is already there.

Moreover, many of the trees and shrubs planted are not native to the area.
