The Scitech science wonderland is offering workshops and activities at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm and children can take part in a nature-inspired art and crafts program using new, natural and recycled materials.

There will also be a worm farm workshop where people can make a mini worm farm, as well as giant games and community displays.

From 5pm, there will be a free twilight concert featuring pop rock prodigies Foreign Architects and indie-folk duo The Littlest Fox.

Satterley chief executive Nigel Satterley said the seven hours of free fun and entertainment, which will be held on Revolution Avenue, were not to be missed.

“There is so much to celebrate, including the opening of Kinkuna Park which features fitness equipment, a multi-use basketball/soccer court, nature play, trampolines, percussion play, swings, a fortress connected by ropes and cargo nets and a large kick-about area with shade structures,” he said.

“As well as this, Kinkuna Park will also feature fun water play elements during the summer months including a vortex water tunnel, water sprouts, fountain spray and jet streams.”

The 8000sq m park also has seating, barbecue areas and toilets.

The developer has given the park the theme of ‘Laughing in the sunlight’ based on the indigenous name, Kinkuna, which means “laughing” and Allara meaning “sunlight.”

The opening will take place at a temporary landscaped park on Revolution Avenue, which will be the site for the future indoor recreation centre.

The recreation centre will ultimately be surrounded by a shopping centre, primary and high school, and 9.8ha of playing fields, which will be among the largest in the region and cater for a variety of sports.

During May, new Allara home buyers could receive up to $30,000 in rebates if they build with one of 12 participating builders.
