BUYERS wanting an inner-city lifestyle can find affordable residences within walking distance of the CBD according to CoreLogic.
Its weekly Property Pulse identified five suburbs with median unit prices under $500,000 within 2km of the city.
The suburb of Perth was the closest, with a range of apartments on offer.
While the median unit price was $419,148 it is possible to find one-bedroom apartments priced close to $200,000.
Northbridge (0.9km) was second on the list, followed by West Perth and East Perth, both 1.5km from the city.
Highgate was the farthest from the CBD at 1.8km, but had the lowest median unit price ($332,451).
Across Australia only home owners in Adelaide and Brisbane were better placed when it came to finding affordable apartments close to the CBD.
CoreLogic identified five suburbs with median unit prices under $500,000 within 1km of both Adelaide and Brisbane.
Hobart and Darwin’s five suburbs were within 3km and Canberra’s were within 3.5km.
Buyers in Melbourne faced a very short commute with the city centre recording a median unit price of $487,071 and four more suburbs with median unit prices under $500,000 within 4km of the city.
The closest suburb to Sydney with median unit price under $500,000 was 12.4km away; the remaining four on CoreLogic’s list were within 18km.
