THE owners were won over by this home’s ‘English feel’, pretty front gardens and the warmth of the interiors when they saw it.
They said the house had become their little oasis.
“It’s like a year-round holiday, a few minutes from town, the river and beach,” they said.
“It’s also been a fantastic house to watch our kids grow up.
“We spent 10 years in London before moving back to Perth so to be able to sit in the living room and alfresco area and look out over the kids playing cricket or soccer in the backyard or swimming with their mates has been priceless.”
From the street the property has a lovely restful feel, surrounded by lush lawn, mature trees and manicured hedges.
Inside it is light and airy.
The living space includes a lounge room with jarrah flooring, high ceilings and a fireplace.
Nearby, in a custom-designed space, is a temperature-controlled wine room.
At the back of the home there is an open-plan living/dining area and large kitchen with stone benchtops, hand-made Italian tiles, walk-in pantry, appliance bench, plenty of storage and quality appliances.
This room has a lovely garden view.
The owners renovated the backyard in 2013 to support their desire for an outdoor lifestyle.
“We undertook a complete redesign, landscaping the garden, adding a new heated pool, building a free-standing pool house with kitchenette and bathroom for the kids and visitors, and replacing the old white slat patio with a modern alfresco space under the main roof with a lounge, dining area and outdoor kitchen,” they said.
“The rear alfresco area and living area have become the heart of the home and where we spend most of our time.
“We also have a lot of fond memories of family and friends enjoying time together here; our record for a Christmas lunch is 29 people seated together at a long table.”
The home has four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The children’s bedrooms have built-in robes and study desks and their bathroom includes a deep bath.
The master bedroom includes an ensuite with free-standing bath, an impressive walk-in robe and the best view in the house according to the owners.
“It has a set of french doors leading out to the garden on the east side and another set of glass doors to the garden on the south side,” they said.
“With two banks of glass you can look out to the pool and gardens.
“The second best view is from the pool house, which looks out to the pool area through 5m of large doors – it really is spoilt on the kids, but the visitors love it.”
The home has a range of extra features including a family organisation nook, zoned ducted airconditioning, built-in Sonos speakers, original sash windows, plantation shutters, outdoor heating, store room and access from a right-of-way.
It is on a 1012sq m block, in a quiet leafy street in central Dalkeith, close to schools, the river, shops and cafes.
“To be able to live here has been amazing,” the owners said.
“The kids attended the kindy near the tennis courts, went to Dalkeith Primary Schools, which is short walk away, and are now close to finishing at the bigger schools, which they can still walk to.
“It is almost a village experience.” n
