Natalie HordovEastern Reporter

REIWA agents are teaming up with The Salvation Army to provide hope to those in need this Christmas.

Participating agents will act as local collection points for people who wish to donate items to The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Appeal.

More than 300,000 Australians will turn to The Salvation Army over the Christmas period as they struggle with the festive pressures.

Recent surveys show 96 per cent of the organisation’s clients are facing a high rent and low income situation, and 56 per cent were forced to cut down on basic necessities.

The Salvation Army public relations secretary Warren Palmer said more and more people in need were turning to The Salvation Army for assistance and to be able to fill their cupboards with festive foods and provide gifts for their children had a lasting impact on someone’s life.

REIWA president Hayden Groves said every contribution, big or small, would make a difference to those sleeping rough on the streets this Christmas.

“The holiday season can be an exceptionally difficult time for the homeless in our community,” he said.

“This is the fourth year REIWA and its agents have been involved in the Salvos’ Annual Christmas Appeal, and in that time we’ve seen just how generous West Aussies can be.

“I encourage the WA community to band together and dig deep to help make this year’s appeal the best yet.

Unwrapped gifts or non-perishable food items can donated at one of the designated REIWA agency collection points by Friday, December 15.

“The Salvos need gifts to suit all age groups, so any item you donate will be put to good use,” Mr Groves said.

“Alternatively, you can visit the Salvos’ website to make a monetary donation.”
