South-West stunner the best by a country mile

A SOUTH-WEST holiday home has made history at this year’s Master Builders Bankwest Housing Excellence Awards after being crowned the top residence in the state.

It is the first time in the award’s 36-year history the best country home winner has gone on to take out the overall Bankwest Top WA Home gong.

The impressive build had already beaten entries from the Geraldton-Midwest, Goldfields-Esperance, Kimberley-Pilbara and Great Southern regions in the country home category before trumping Mosman Bay Construction, Signature Custom Homes, and Zorzi Builders at the end of the awards night.

“It’s a real privilege to be the first country builder to win the award,” Adrian Zorzi Homes managing director Adrian Zorzi said.

“I’m very proud of my strong team and it’s even more satisfying to know that we produced a home to the exceptional standards required to win this award with the additional constraints associated with being in a rural area.

“Gaining access to materials and suppliers of the quality that this home demanded is more difficult in the regions, but we did it, and the award is further testament to the quality of the tradespeople that we have in the South-West.”

Master Builders executive director Michael McLean said the win was an outstanding achievement that recognized the quality of workmanship in regional WA.

“Adrian Zorzi should be very proud of his achievement,” he said.

“He clearly has an excellent blend of specialist trades to be able to perform at such a high level of workmanship.

“The win shines a spotlight on our South-West and showcases the craftsmanship and talent of the skilled local tradespeople.”

The Georgian-inspired masterpiece was lauded for its attention to detail, with chief judge Robert Shaw describing the home as “a pleasure to judge.”

“The home was a standout,” he said.

“It highlights what the Master Builders Awards are all about.”

Top home finalist Zorzi Builders topped the best contract home – $3 million and above category for a Phillip Road residence in Dalkeith and was given the nod for excellence in plastering for the same house.

Other big winners on the night were Dale Alcock Homes, who took home multiple prizes across several categories including best contract home – $200,000 to $230,000 for its apartments in Catalina estate in Clarkson and best display home – $260,000 to $280,000 for its Affinity I display in Banjup.

The company’s renovation arm, Dale Alcock Home Improvements, was the inaugural winner of the newly introduced best ancillary dwelling award for its work on a Woodvale family’s two-bedroom, 70sqm granny flat.

“Winning these five awards demonstrates the strength the Dale Alcock name has across the new homes, home improvement and development sectors,” Dale Alcock Home Improvement general manager Steve Grehan said.

“The winning projects also display our diversity, from stylish homes for families and first-home buyers, to granny flats and apartment projects.

“We are especially proud that this year’s excellence in customer service award has gone to Dale Alcock Home Improvement – it’s the second time our home improvement team has won this award and we believe it’s proof that excellent customer service can always be expected from us, no matter which division of Dale Alcock you are working with.”

Seacrest Homes went home with the prestigious best display home gong for The Mirage in Mosman Park, a five-bedroom, six-bathroom home spanning three levels.

The display was the highest scoring display home entered across all price categories and set the bar for other entries in its over-$650,000 section.

“The home showed a level of finish a cut above its competitors, which included many features and structures that would not be considered easy to construct,” Right Homes partner and category judge Gary Wright said.

“The details and level of workmanship is a credit to the builder.”

Vision One Homes, part of the Novus Homes Group, also took home awards in various categories, one for its Acclaim Elite Showcase in Eglinton in Perth’s north for best display home – $310,000 to $350,000, and another for a canalside client home in Dudley Park in the best contract home – $400,000 to $500,000 category.

First-time entrants and eventual winners on the night were One Design and Construct, who took home the prize for best alteration and addition – $150,000 to $200,000 for an extension of a family home in Applecross.

“It was just fantastic to see that all the hard work we had put in over the past three years had paid off,” One Design & Construct managing director John Bodin said.

“It was just the recognition we needed for everything the team has done.”

A sustainable Carlisle three-bedroom rebuild by Right Homes, inspired by holidays on Rottnest Island, was named most liveable home, and Artique Homes made a comeback this year with a Salter Point house for best contract home – $500,000 to $650,000.

Last year’s top home winner Brian Burke Homes was also rewarded for its efforts, with trophies for best contract home – $1 million to $1.5 million for an Alkoomie Terrace, City Beach residence, as well as in the best contract home $1.5 million to $3 million category, excellence in painting and excellence in ceilings for its project on Curacao Lane, Hillarys.
