THE 2018 Master Painters and Decorators Australia (MP&DA) Dulux Group Awards for Excellence has highlighted WA’s outstanding tradies.

MP&DA chief executive Amanda Dawes congratulated the award winners on the high calibre of entries across 24 categories.

“Painting and decorating skills are honed by years of training and practice, followed by continuous learning on the job,” she said.

“The awards are a tribute to those in our industry who never stop learning; embracing new techniques and technology, fashion and style while maintaining traditional skills and expertise learned over many years.”

The major award winners were Platinum Finishes Painting & Decorating in Jandakot and Hopkinson Painting in Geraldton, the latter scooping five titles.

Bob the Painter in Albany and Roadrunner Painting and Decorating in Warrenup topped in multiple categories.

The MP&DA also conducted the Apprentice of the Year competition to challenge and assess the next generation of tradies on a range of painting and decorating skills

Lower Chittering resident Natasha Sleath, who works at Colourific Painting Contractors, topped after competing against 10 other highly skilled young tradies from around the state in a gruelling round of theory and practical skills assessments.

“It’s exciting to see the skills coming through from our young apprentices this year and much of this is due to the quality training they are receiving from institutions such as MPA Skills and TAFE,” Ms Dawes said.
