John Gangell wants to make the Town of Bassendean a destination hotspot.
As a Town of Bassendean councillor and former mayor, Mr Gangell has been involved in many successful initiatives including the establishment of the Old Perth Road Markets and outdoor movies.
He also supported underground power in Ashfield, new playgrounds in Ashfield and Eden Hill and a floating jetty at Success Hill.
“We have all the makings to be a destination and tourist hotspot, our town is close to the city, has picturesque river frontage, wonderful parks and a unique town centre charm,” Mr Gangell said.
If re-elected, Mr Gangell wants to focus on creating a dedicated town centre piazza to be the pride of place for community festivals and events.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to be involved with the award winning WonderRealm and Little Italy festivals,” he said.
“To see these quality events attract thousands of people to our town and the flow on effect to businesses is a terrific benefit.”
Enhancing and protecting the beautiful Swan River strip is also a key priority for Mr Gangell.
Council has finalised plans for a nature-based regional playground at Sandy Beach set to be a strong attraction for the community, children, families and tourists to enjoy.
Community infrastructure and investment is a passion for Mr Gangell and there are exciting times ahead with plans to build underground power in Eden Hill, redevelop the former Eden Hill shopping centre site and parking to be provided at Ashfield train station.
“It is important to work closely with local business operators to provide the best possible opportunities for our local businesses to be successful, grow and employ local people” Mr Gangell said.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to work with our amazing community to make this happen.”
