Australian Hockey League to showcase nation’s best players in Perth

WA’s best hockey players will compete against state and international stars at next week’s Australian Hockey League (AHL) held in Perth.

Maylands goalkeeper Aleisha Power could be making her second appearance with the WA Diamonds team headed by Rio Olympian Kathryn Slattery.

The AHL tournament features state and territory teams and teams from India, Malaysia and New Zealand.

It will be the first time in AHL history that both men and women compete at the same venue.

Hockey WA chief executive Peter Churack said the AHL was going to be the biggest event in the tournament’s history.

“A fantastic family-friendly event, this year’s AHL will give Hockey WA the perfect opportunity to grow the game of hockey throughout the State and showcase our fantastic athletes, outstanding facilities and progressive programs on the international stage,” he said.

“It also provides Hockey WA with the perfect opportunity to grow the game of hockey throughout Western Australia and showcase our fantastic athletes, outstanding facilities and progressive programs on the international stage.

“With many of the country’s top athletes set to come to Perth to take to the field for the their home States and Territories, as well as several international teams now competing for the first time, the 2016 AHL is going to be a must-see event.”

Tickets for the 2016 AHL are now on sale with day passes available for only $10.

The 2016 AHL starts on Thursday, September 29 and concludes on October 8.
