GOLD Martial Arts in Balcatta has capped off a successful WA Karate League season by winning 10 medals at this month’s WA Open.
The club finished with six gold, two silver and two bronze medals at Edith Cowan University Joondalup on October 21.
Nollamara athletes Lester Maru John, Hayden Maru and Jack Goode, Isabella Martin of Noranda, Benjamin Quinn of Beechboro and Tye Ismail of Balcatta won gold medals.
Chief instructor Mark Golding said the club won 70 medals across four competitions this year.
“The team at Gold Martial Arts are delighted to have finished the season strongly,” he said.
“The level of success has been a result of the athletes’ willingness to work hard, stay focused as well as remain committed to achieving their goals.
“Our training program emphasises the importance of continuous improvement in an individual’s performance and this has been very evident throughout the year.
“We are extremely pleased with the level of success in 2018 and the purpose-designed full-time training facility in Balcatta has been integral to this success, by enabling greater training opportunities for all our athletes.”
Golding said his athletes would now take a “well-deserved” rest from competition and concentrate more on the traditional aspects of karate as a martial art. .
