League leaders Thunder will take to the ice just hours before the North American hockey powerhouses thrill more than 10,000 West Australians on June 20.
Perth Thunder general manager Stan Scott said it was a good opportunity for the club to remind locals there was a competitive league in their back yard.
Its excellent for us to have the opportunity to showcase ourselves is invaluable, he said.
We want people to know we have an exceptionally good league here in Australia and for us, weve got an exceptionally good team here in Perth.
Scott said the logistics of organising an event involving two international and AIHL teams proved difficult, but was finalised late last month.
I started speaking to people when I was in the US in January with the National Hockey League (NHL); it was quite complex to put it all together but everyone was positive to the idea and once they saw the level of our product they thought it was a good idea, he said.
The players were very excited; there were murmurings in February but we kept it under wraps. Theyre really looking forward to it.
The AIHL game will begin at 3.30pm on Saturday, June 20, ahead of the Canada-USA game.
