Staff ReporterEastern Reporter

After having one of their worst starts to the season in recent years, the Eagles have won 10 of their past 12 games to improve their record to 13 wins and 10 losses.

The 13 wins have them equal fourth on the ladder in a tight race leading into the finals.

The Eagles started out red hot, leading 36-18 at the first break.

The Eagles extended their lead to 24 points before the Hawks started to make a comeback to win the second quarter.

The third quarter also fell in favour of the Hawks as they brought the deficit back to six points before the Eagles regained control in the fourth and ran away with a 16-point win.

Mathiang Muo led the way for the Eagles with 20 points while Joe-Alan Tupaea added 17 points, Sunday Dech (15), Nikola Donlagic (14) and Tom Jervis (13) to go with 12 rebounds, four blocked shots and two assists.

Coach Adam Forde said it was a scrappy game.

‘It got real ugly in some stretches,’ he said.

‘I don’t think the side would be completely happy with how both teams played.

‘But we’ll take the win, especially at this stage of the season.’

The Eagles now head to Geraldton to play the top-of-the-table Buccaneers, in a crucial game for their finals aspirations.
