EDEN Hill indoor hockey player Morgan Bentley aiming higher in the sport after achieving her first double selection in two state teams.

The 17-year-old defender was recently named in the under-18s and under-21s teams for the Indoor Australian Championships to be held in Goulburn, New South Wales, in January.

Bentley, who plays for the North Coast Raiders Hockey Club, said the nationals would be her 11th time representing WA.

“I have not done a double-up before but I played in under-15s with a lot of girls who are doing under-18s now – we won gold a few times,” she said.

“I have played with the under-18s last year and we got bronze.

“It is a completely different dynamic between both teams; there are more junior players in the under-18s and coming into under-21s, it is good to have players that are older so you can learn off them.”

The Perth College student said her goal was to reach senior indoor teams.

“For indoor especially, I really want to try and get to a top level, whether that be the women’s open or national level,” she said.

“There are lots of girls that I have been playing with for club indoor that have represented Australia and they are amazing players.

“The group of girls that have come through have become like family – that is why I play.”
