Evolving Eagles set to defend title

THE 2014 SBL championship winning East Perth Eagles have undergone some massive roster changes as they look to defend their title this season starting Friday.

Kyle Armour, Mathaing Muo and Nikola Donlagic who all started in the Grand Final win against Geraldton will not be returning for the 2015 season, alongside Austin Kisselev, Jarrod Balcombe and John Taylor who provided valuable minutes off the bench.

Additionally Nathan Freind went down with an ankle injury during preseason training, which could see him out for at least of half the season before he can return fully fit.

However, with their departures, some valuable additions come into the line-up hungry for their own success.

Anthony Fisher who represented the Australian U19s National Team and played alongside current NBA player Dante Exum, takes over the point guard role. Last season Anthony played for Ballarat in the SEABL before moving over to Perth to become a development player for the Perth Wildcats.

Along with Fisher, Rhys Vague, who also is an Australian junior representative, brings his size and scoring power to East Perth. Vague led the league in scoring with 23 points per game during the U20s national tournament last week, and has also earned himself a spot as a Wildcats development player.

Stefano Simeoli is an Italian born national who will bring his size and experience as a handy addition.

Simeoli has played for numerous teams throughout Italy which include multiple seasons in the top tier national league for Biella.

Along with the new additions, Drew Williamson returns for his fifth season and will captain the Eagles, while Sunday Dech takes on the role as vice captain.

Wildcats’ big man Tom Jervis, Jamie Barnett and Joe Alan Tupaea will all return as well hoping to defend their championship title.
