A COMMUNITY event held in Bayswater will be in the running for the event of the year award at the 2016-17 Sport and Recreation Industry Awards in July.
City of Bayswater and Inclusion WA’s Have a Go Day (HAGD) was named a finalist for the event of the year category.
The annual event involved local community groups who displayed participation opportunities related to sport and recreation in the City .
HAGD was held in April for the sixth year in a row and about 850 participants aged six months to 80 years of age attended.
Department of Sport and Recreation director general Ron Alexander said the awards highlighted the excellent work of local organisations.
“The awards highlight the breadth of the work which goes on in our industry from the events which we can see and participate in through to what happens behind the scenes to make them happen,” Mr Alexander said.
“The finalists for these awards are all contributing to encouraging more people to be and stay active, to engage with others with a common interest and consciously working to strengthen local communities.”
Finalists across nine categories would be in contention for the Minister’s Award for Industry Excellence with $10,000 in prize money.
Winners will be announced at the Sport and Recreation Industry Awards Presentation Breakfast on July 26.
