Kristie LimEastern Reporter

FORMER A-League soccer player turned fashion designer Calum O’Connell from Noranda has found the perfect balance in life between soccer and running his own label.

Former Brisbane Roar and current Inglewood United player O’Connell is the founder of Fearless Active Wear, a WA brand created in late 2015 and is set to launch his spring/summer collection in October.

O’Connell (26), who is also a fitness professional, said Fearless was a fitness and lifestyle brand that produced comfortable active wear to fit all body types.

He said he enjoyed fashion but still had the desire to continue his soccer career.

“It is kind of hard when you start a business…the journey of a soccer player can take you all over the place, you have to sacrifice a lot to do it,” he said.

“I am actually glad that I can still play and focus on my business and I think it is important to have that balance.

“For me, I will never lose my passion for playing because it is hard to walk away from it.”

He said the brand was created late last year.

“It is a local active wear brand that came about me working in the fitness industry and working with a lot of female clients,” he said.

“I think it really came about from the things that they really wanted from active wear and with a lot of brands, the quality sometimes is not there.”

O’Connell said he was looking to expand his business to the eastern states.

“It is definitely affectively a female brand…we are going to bring our unisex tanks for summer so guys can purchase that if they want to but predominately just female focused,” he said.

“At the moment, it is really about trying to establish and building relationships with people locally, get it out there and see how it goes.”
