Josh Kennedy: Vale Trev and trolley

ANY fans who attended West Coast Eagles training sessions would know of Trevor Perriam.

They wouldn’t know his name but they would know who he was.

Sadly, we found out last Thursday night that Trevor, in his mid-70s, had passed away.

For about 23 years, Trevor had been a part of our off-field team, doing the little things that helped our training sessions tick along.

He was a great old bloke who volunteered and was there for every session.

He would have a trolley full of gear that he would wheel out between drills so that coaches and players could grab what they needed for the next exercise, whether that be training bibs for a competitive hit-out, markers the coaches would use, water bottles, whatever.

As a playing group we were gutted to hear the news and wore black armbands on Saturday night as a mark of respect for a bloke who gave so much to our club.

At the end of the game, we circled his trolley as we sang the song.

Trev would have been rapt that we won the game, which leaves us in a good position at 10-1 going into the bye and means we can take a positive mindset into a few days off, as we’re not playing next week.

Most of the guys will use the break as an opportunity to catch up with family and friends. They will go away, get out of town for a few days and kick back.

After 11 games, we have the opportunity to give both our bodies and our minds a bit of a spell, refresh and then focus on the second half of the year.

The start to the season has given us a strong platform to build on, so we will be looking to consolidate when we resume. You probably need 13 wins to lock down a finals spot so that will be our first target.

We haven’t achieved anything yet and we are under no illusions that there is plenty of hard work ahead. For now, though, we’ll kick back and enjoy the time out for a few days.
