‘I worked extremely hard to put myself into contention for selection,’ she said.

‘I lost 28kg in eight weeks and got myself fighting fit, all while nursing a grade four tear of my perineal, which really should have seen me sidelined for a minimum of six months.

‘So to be able to take to the court only eight weeks post-baby was a miracle in itself and not to mention a huge risk which has paid off.’

Mazzini, who will fund her estimated $5000 travel costs herself, said she was hoping to gain sponsorship to help fulfil her dream.

‘Playing for Australia and to represent my country in a sport I am so passionate about has been a dream of mine for a very long time,’ she said.

‘I am very excited to be selected and I hope that my story inspires others in the community to achieve their goals.’
