League’s hunt for home keeps on rolling

The Community Newspaper Group caught up with the WA Roller Derby last year after one potential training ground was gutted by fire in West Perth.

Since then, calls to lease a vacant warehouse have gone unheard despite the league’s desire to help deter unwanted vandals and squatters.

Coach Shelley McLean (aka Dayzee A’Dare) said they were continuing the hunt but it had hit a ‘plateau,’ with the league using The Rise in Maylands as a central training location in the interim.

Other venues hired include Rolloways in O’Connor, Kingsway Indoor Stadium in Madeley and the Claremont Showgrounds for part of the year.

However, McLean said they are chasing the convenience of having somewhere central available to them throughout the week and to store gear.

‘Every place that has become available has either been out of our reach financially or they’re just not happy loaning it out to a sporting group,’ she said.

‘We have been offering to do a peppercorn lease’
