A TRIO of skaters from the Malaga-based Cobras Rollerskating Club are looking to add to their state titles at this week’s national championships held in Perth.

Ballajura resident Kayleen Vance (18), Asha Hickford (13) of White Gum Valley and Marcin Bankowski (9) of Noranda are among 22 skaters who will represent WA at the 2018 Australian National In-Line Championships.

The championships, with road, marathon and speed divisions, will take place at Skate Central in Perth Airport and Herb Graham Recreation Centre in Mirrabooka from January 14 to 21.

Vance and Hickford, who helped WA place second last year, both represented Australia at the 2017 Oceania Speed Skating Championships.

Vance said she was training nine times a week ahead of her first senior competition.

“I hope people can come down and watch and see the sport,” she said.

She said she aimed to get selected for international competitions after the nationals, including the Oceania Championships for the second time.

Hickford said she hoped to gain more experience by competing in a higher age group.

“I am moving up a grade because I’d like to get challenged a bit more,” she said.

Bankowski, who started skating when he was three, said he was excited to compete in his first national championships.

The championships’ road division will run from January 14 to 17, with indoor starting on January 19 and marathon on January 21.
