PAUL Parker shared the field with some of the biggest names in English football during a decorated 15-year career, and a Perth audience will get an insight into life as a professional sportsman when he visits later this month.
Parker, who won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and League Cup during five years at Manchester United, and represented his country 19 times, will be speaking at the State Library Theatre in Northbridge on October 28.
His career took in stints at Fulham, Queens Park Rangers, United, Derby County and Chelsea, and he shared a dressing room with players such as Eric Cantona, Bryan Robson and Ryan Giggs, and was managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, who called Parker “one of the best signings” he made as Manchester United manager.
“(Parker) was an integral part of the defence I consider to be the best I have ever worked with,” Ferguson said in reference to the back four of Parker, Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister and Dennis Irwin.
Fans will be able to hear firsthand Parker’s experiences as part of the side that catapulted Manchester United to 20 years of dominance at the top of English football under Ferguson, as well as what it was like to represent England at the 1990 World Cup.
The event will be hosted by local football personality and broadcaster Ashley Morrison.
